Have you found that your Vizio TV refuses to turn on because of an issue with the power cord? The first thing you should do is identify if the fault is coming from the cord or not.
I once experienced a situation where my Vizio TV didn’t turn on, but I discovered the issue was with my power cord. Only in this case, the cord was loosely attached to the TV and not faulty.
There are countless Vizio TV owners who experience this problem, whereby a faulty power cord has stopped them from viewing their favorite programs.
The only way to fix a Vizio TV power cord that is not working is to have it replaced. Most of the time, the cord is not faulty and simply needs to be reseated on the TV.
I’ll be sharing how to identify a faulty power cord in the next section, and then after that you should be able to deduce a faulty power cable and have it replaced.
How to identify a faulty Vizio TV Power Cord
The easiest way to identify a faulty Vizio TV power cord is by performing a thorough examination. Here is a list of things you should watch out for when examining your TV’s power cord.
- Check for cracks or openings: Carefully detach the cable from the power outlet and examine for cracks or openings that show signs of wear in the cord insulation.
- Check for loose or faulty prongs: Make sure the prongs that go directly into the power outlet are not loose or faulty. A loose or broken prong on your cord means that it is damaged and needs to be replaced.
- Check for burns: Make sure an electrical surge has not burned and damaged the power cord. You should examine the end that goes directly to the power outlet.
If you have checked the power cord and discovered no physical damage, then it is possible that something else is wrong. In the next section, I’ll be sharing other reasons why your Vizio TV power cord is not working and how to solve it.
Why isn’t my Vizio TV power cord working?
1. Power Outlet Issue
It is possible that there is actually nothing wrong with your Vizio TV power cord and that the issue was just with the power outlet.
You can try plugging the TV into a different power outlet, or better still, connect a different device to the outlet and see if it works fine. If it works fine, then you know that there is nothing wrong with the outlet.
If a different device does not work with the same outlet as your Vizio TV, then you should have that outlet replaced.
2. Re-seat the Power Cord
The issue might just be that your power cord is loosely attached to your Vizio TV. Since the power cord on most Vizio TVs can be detached, it can easily get disconnected.
You should unplug the power cord completely, and then plug it in again.
3. Unsupported Power Cord
It might be possible that the power cord is not supported with your specific model. This can be possible if you recently got a new Vizio TV universal AC power cord from Amazon or another retailer.
You’ll need to check Vizio TV’s website under “TV Specs” or “Owner’s Manuals” to see information about the type of power cord that will work with your specific model number or serial number.
You can also contact Vizio’s customer service to find out what type of power cord will work for your TV.
At this point, you now know how to identify a faulty power cord and what to do if your power cord is not working.
Most of the time, a new power cord that is compatible with your Vizio TV model should fix any power issue you’re facing unless it is related to hardware.
If this is the case, you can contact Vizio for repairs if your TV is still under warranty.
